What if props could do more than modify a pose?

Most of us are introduced to props as tools tor support. A block brings the floor closer. A strap extends your reach. A bolster makes a pose more accessible.
And while props can absolutely do all of those things, they can also be powerful teaching tools.

Props can create resistance. Provide feedback. Change sensation. Make an anatomical action easier to feel. Help us notice how one part of the body influences another.

They can help students experience what we're trying to teach instead of relying on more verbal cues to explain it
That's the idea behind Prop Lab.
Experience Anatomy. Don't Just Memorize It.

Prop Lab is a self paced training for yoga teachers and curious practitioners who want to experience anatomy and movement, not just memorize it.

Through creative, hands-on explorations, you'll learn to use blocks, straps, blankets, walls, bolsters, resistance bands, and more as tools for feedback, awareness, and discovery.

Moving through the body from the ground up, you'll explore joint actions, biomechanics, and movement patterns while discovering how props can help students feel and understand what's happening in their own bodies.

You'll leave with 100+ creative prop applications, practical teaching tools, and a new way of thinking about props that goes far beyond modifications.

What Makes Prop Lab Different?

This isn't a course about memorizing muscles. And it isn't a collection of creative ways to arrange yoga blocks. Its a training on how to create learning experiences.

Instead of asking: "What prop should I use?"
Prop Lab teaches you to ask: "What am I trying to help my students notice?

Once you know that reason, the prop becomes a tool for exploration. You might use a block to create feedback. A strap to create resistance. A wall to make an action easier to feel. A bolster to change someone's relationship to gravity. Or two versions of the same pose to create contrast and help a student notice the difference.

The goal isn't to tell students what they're supposed to feel. It's to create an experience that gives them something to notice.
Inside The Lab
We'll move through the body from the ground up, exploring the major joint actions and movement patterns you encounter in yoga. Along the way, you'll explore:
Anatomy Simplified
Understand the joint action and key anatomy without getting lost in terminology
Hands-On Prop Explorations
Experience movement through guided explorations using blocks, straps, walls, blankets, bolsters, resistance bands, yoga straps, and more
Yoga Pose Applications
Take what you discover in the explorations and apply it to familiar yoga poses
Teaching Applications
Learn how to turn an anatomical concept into something your students can actually experience
Whole-Body Integration
Explore how individual joint actions work together as part of a larger movement system
Reflection & Self-Study
Notice what changes in your body so you can teach from experience rather than assumption
100+ Ways To Explore
Throughout Prop Lab, you'll discover 100+ creative prop applications and more than 80 guided movement explorations covering the body from the ground up.

You'll explore movement at the:
ANKLES • KNEES • HIPS • PELVIS • SPINE FOREARMS • SHOULDERS • SCAPULAE

And then you'll bring those individual pieces together to explore how the body works as a team.

But the goal isn't to memorize 100 prop setups. The goal is to develop a process you cna use to create explorations of your own.

Prop Lab Is For You If...
You teach yoga and want to understand anatomy and biomechanics in a way that feels practical and applicable
You know some anatomy but aren't always sure how to translate that knowledge into your teaching
You find yourself using the same props in the same ways and want fresh ideas
You want your students to understand their bodies instead of simply copying shapes
You want more tools for teaching strength, mobility, awareness, and movement
You love asking questions, experimenting, and discovering why something works
Or maybe you're a curious practitioner who simply wants to understand your own movement more deeply
You don't need to be an anatomy expert.
You just need to be curious.

The Prop Lab Philosophy
There is no single experience of a yoga pose. Every body brings a different history, structure, nervous system, level of strength, mobility, perception, and experience to the practice.

That's why Prop Lab isn't about using props to make everyone experience a pose the same way. It's about creating opportunities to notice:

SENSATION • RESISTANCE • FEEDBACK • LEVERAGE • STABILITY • AWARENESS

Every prop changes something. And when something changes, we have an opportunity to learn. That's where Svadhyaya, the practice of Self-Study, becomes part of the physical practice.

We explore. We notice. We learn. And then we decide what that information means for our body.

Rooted In The Chromatic Yoga Method
Prop Lab is informed by the Chromatic Yoga approach, where anatomy, movement education, and creative exploration come together to build confidence, clarity, and lasting impact in your teaching.
Clear Educational Intention
Every prop has a purpose. You'll learn why and when to use it for meaningful outcomes.

Experiential Learning
You'll feel it first hand through movement, reflection, and hands-on practice

Progressive Layering
Build understanding step by step, adding complexity as confidence grows

Agency & Adaptability
Develop the skills to adapt props to your students , settings, and your unique voice

Meaningful Application
Bring your learning off the mat and into real classes with confidence and creativity

Hi, I'm Heidi.
I’m an E-RYT 500 yoga teacher, Yoga Teacher Trainer, Chromatic Yoga Lead Teacher and Mentor, and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I’ve practiced yoga for more than 25 years, taught for over a decade, and supported more than 120 yoga teachers in developing greater clarity, confidence, and creativity in their teaching.

My work is rooted in a question that sits at the heart of Prop Lab: How can we help students understand what they’re experiencing, not simply perform what we’re teaching?
I believe anatomy and biomechanics become most meaningful when they can be felt. Props give us a way to make an action clearer, create feedback and resistance, explore contrast, and help students recognize what is happening in their own bodies. They can turn abstract information into a direct learning experience.

As the owner of The Yoga Barn in Sharon, Massachusetts, I bring this approach into my classes every day. I am also a published author and the host of the Theme Weavers Podcast, where I help yoga teachers bring greater intention and meaning to their teaching.

I created Prop Lab to give you more than a collection of creative prop ideas. My goal is to help you develop a process for creating purposeful explorations of your own so you can teach anatomy, movement, and yoga with more curiosity, adaptability, and confidence.

"I want you to leave with a process, not just a collection of prop ideas."
